Depression, antidepressants and CBD.

Depression, antidepressants and CBD.

Did you know that..
1. Depression affects the whole body;
2. A depressed person's brain may look different on an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging);
3. Depressed people may not appear depressed at all;
4. Physical exercise for 30 minutes every day can help fight depression;
5. It may be necessary to try more than one antidepressant before wanted result is achieved.

Can CBD help with depression?

Using CBD oil can improve the quality of sleep, reduce anxiety, improve mood and adjust changed eating habits. In most cases, depression is accompanied by these symptoms. Relieving these unpleasant sensations makes the fight against depression easier!

What are the possible interactions of antidepressants with CBD?

Our Kubalance team reviewed the Bustle interview with Dr. Peter Grinspoon. The doctor, medical cannabis specialist and professor at Harvard Medical School explains what happens when you take antidepressants and CBD. The interviewer says that there is a lack of scientific literature on this topic, so the doctor's conclusion is that CBD has a HYPOTHETICAL drug interaction, but his main question is whether it is clinically important or not?

CBD inhibits two main enzyme systems. Enzymes are proteins that speed up various chemical reactions in the body and are therefore important for various processes such as digestion and respiration. Enzymes also help metabolize antidepressants. "One of the systems affected by CBD (the CYP43A enzyme system) is the same one that is inhibited by grapefruit. So, like grapefruit juice, CBD can cause a higher concentration of benzodiazepines or antipsychotic drugs in the blood," explains Dr. Peter Grinspoon.
